Our policies our suspect, and our soldiers are in an untenable situation where everyone looks like the enemy. How many of these young men and women will come home damaged, waking up with nightmares from what they had to do for years?

How many more innocents will die because we don’t have a policy in Iraq — we just have an occupying army?

How many more terrorists will we create after we orphan thousands upon thousands of children with no official explanation except that the U.S. Army regrets the unfortunate situation?

This is the legacy of our nation in 2005. All our hands are dirty.

Just got home from a lovely dinner party with friends, and now I’m going to quietly ring in 2005 with Kat and Jakob.

But first… Happy New Year to all. May we find that 2005 brings us all happiness, wisdom and peace.

In the face of a tragedy such as the earthquakes that took over 60,000 lives, it is easy to give into hopelessness, thinking there’s nothing we can do. But we can give. We can give to the organizations who do the work on the ground.
