This is a crazy thought, I know…. but perhaps American students will do better internationally on the science tests when we start allowing our teachers to, you know, teach science.

We have many deeply religious students at SLA, and we have many students who come from religious schools. However, we also teach folks what the scientific definition of a "Theory" really is, and we teach kids about good science. One of my favorite moments from my planning year was when I went to do a recruiting visit at a Christian Academy here in Philly. The headmaster met me at the door and said, "Just wanted to let you know… we do teach evolution here." The headmaster is now one of my dear friends.

Religion and good science are not mutually exclusive. Religion and evolution are not mutually exclusive. This is not a fight we can afford to lose.
