We’re finalizing our list of texts for our 10th grade English curriculum, and we’re feeling like we’ve got a decent list, just not a great one yet…

Here are our current draft of the essential questions for the 10th grade:

  • What are systems?
  • How are systems created and defined?
  • How do systems shape our world?
  • What is the role of the individual within the system?

(you can see the theme is systems…)

And in science it’s the second year of Biochem, and in history it’s "World History: Systems in Conflict." We were thinking that we want a bit more World Lit… but we’re not quite there yet… but we do think that the "Systems" lens is an amazing one for study.

Some texts:
– Lord of the Flies
– Othello
– One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
– Their Eyes Were Watching God
– Passing
– Interpreter of Maladies
12 Angry Men
Separate Peace
Song of Solomon
In the Time of the Butterflies
Things Fall Apart
Caucasia
Nadine Gordimer (sp)

– means more strongly considering.

So… if people have other texts or ideas that could play out… we’re really open to suggestion. We want to finalize this list by next week, and we’d love the blogosphere’s input. So input away!
