I’ve been mulling the NY Times Magazine piece for a while, and I do plan on writing about it, but until then — just go read Peter Campbell’s piece — My Wild Child and ask yourself a version of the question that I left in the comments:
What happens when we commit to the idea that our schools should help to create 21st Century citizens and activists instead of settling for creating 21st Century workers? How does that change what educators do? What we believe? What our goals become?
It’s never been enough to assume that schools should create a workforce. We’ve got to reach higher than that.
