Sadly, Rev. William Sloane Coffin passed away yesterday. He was the Yale Chaplin during the late 60s and early 70s who became famous for his leftist politics and protests. His life was in service the common good, whether it was his early career at Yale or his later work as the head of SANE/Freeze and many, many other works. He also was semi-famous for being the inspiration for the character of Rev. Scot Sloane in Doonesbury.

Rev. Coffin in many ways symbolized the generation of activists who came of age in the civil rights era. He was committed to social justice, willing to take hard stands, and often found himself on the forefront of movements before they became popular. He was a principled man who will be greately missed.
