One of the toughtest things to learn as a young teacher — for me — was how to manage the workload, the emotions, and the general teaching life. It’s easy to let the job overwhelm you.

Now, seven months into the planning process of SLA, the realization is that lesson I learned ten years ago is just as important now.

All of us who care about education make this our life’s work, but we also have to make sure we don’t let it take over our life. One, it’s not sustainable, two, it’s not healthy, and three, it robs us of the new experiences we need to continually reinvigorate our classes and schools.

So here’s my question to you: What’s your best "Get Away From Our Schools" technique?

(Mine used to be Ultimate, but these days, it’s either Jakob or exploring Philly.)
