On a blog I just discovered called Pedablogue, Professor Mike Arnzen of Seton Hall recommends this Teaching Handbook. I’ve given it a quick perusal, and it’s really quite a great guide.
It’s geared toward University teaching, so the section on lecture isn’t all that useful for high school teachers, but the part on what kinds of questions make for good discussion questions was spot on. But also, they start with Twenty-Eight Teaching Strategies that are worth a look. I think that many of these fall under the "of course" category for anyone who has been through a teacher-ed program, and certainly, I would hope that most high school teachers were better pedagogically than most university professors, but at the same time, this was a concise enough list that it bears inspection:
