Today, the President of the United States is a man who met a 13 year old who stuttered while he was a Presidential candidate on the campaign trail. The candidate gave the young man his phone number so that the young man would not feel alone, so that the young man would know that he could overcome his stutter as the candidate had done.

The candidate promised to stay in touch with this young man, and in the middle of a bruising Presidential campaign, he did.

And today, we have a President of the United States who asked that young man to read the words from the inaugural speech of another President to the nation.

Because he knew that the young man could do it.

And the young man did. Flawlessly.

That – as much as anything else – is the measure of the man who is now the President of the United States.

As an educator and as a parent, that gives me hope for our nation.
