I got home from NECC to find that my latest purchases from Amazon had arrived! (I have to say that the amazon.com credit card is a really, really wonderful thing. Buy everything on that, pay it off every month. Get free books. Yay!)

So, taking my cue from Will, I thought I'd publish my summer reading list. Some of these are books that have been in the queue for a while, some of them I've just gotten:

You may want to consider reading Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's
Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention. After reading Flow, you will like Creativity - and it fits nicely with your other reads. Interesting stories about the creative process people go through - he highlights around 90 creative individuals and works to discern what makes their creative process work - interesting stuff.

Lortie is an interesting choice - great study on the sociology of teaching. Things have changed but yet so remain the same.

Great list! and I promise I'll put mine in writing next week after a bit of a rest.

But I just have to mention a book I'm reading now - 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus.

It's a super read about the history of the cultures and people of the Americas. But even better, it's also the story of how history is being written and re-written. So much of what we know is in flux, and the story of how smart people continue to question, search for meaning, fight with each other, and advance common knowledge is fascinating. It's a reminder that we have so much yet to discover about ourselves, and that we must continually ask questions and look at everything a second, third, forth time.

In the spirit of sharing, I've posted my reading list as well over at my LJ (click on "Link" to go to the post directly). This is mostly reading for my thesis lit review, because that IS my summer. Whee. I dunno how many of these books anyone in education would be interested in, but if you're interested in online cultures, online communities, identity studies, anthropology, and political economy (this is my New Thing I hope to add more on this topic to my list soon) these might be interesting reads.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human by Tom Boellstorf. It's fabulous. And he Gets It. Which is good!
