With this attitude, Chris, I think you are going to have a great school year next year too! I am so glad to read a principal blogging who is passionate about instruction. Too many of our administrators here in Texas are not instructionally focused, in my opinion. Being with students can definitely be an invigorating experience, especially when they are excited about being provided with CHOICES and OPTIONS in their own education-- and having a stake in it. Good luck hiring your staff! :-)

Unfortunately, a great many administrators go into it to escape the classroom.

They're invariably the worst, as people unable to deal with kids tend to have as little or less success with adults. I'm glad you feel the way you do. I've had a few great supervisors, and I'm sure they were great teachers too.
